Test Discovery

The process of automatically identifying test definitions across repositories or infrastructure. Testkube supports discovering tests defined in Git repos or clusters.

What Does Test Discovery Mean?

Test discovery is the automated process of finding, cataloging, and registering existing test definitions within a codebase or environment. Instead of manually importing or recreating tests, discovery mechanisms scan repositories or configurations to identify available tests, their types, and execution parameters.

Why Test Discovery Matters

As organizations scale their test coverage across multiple teams, frameworks, and repositories, manual management becomes inefficient and error-prone. Test discovery helps teams:

  • Automatically detect and register new or modified tests.
  • Maintain visibility into all available test assets across environments.
  • Eliminate duplication and reduce setup effort.
  • Align test coverage with evolving codebases.

This automation ensures that testing remains up to date and consistent with the latest application and infrastructure changes.

How Test Discovery Works with Testkube

  • Git Repository Scanning: Testkube scans connected Git repositories to identify test manifests and automatically register them in the platform.
  • Cluster-Level Discovery: Detects tests already defined or deployed within Kubernetes clusters.
  • Multi-Framework Support: Recognizes tests written in different frameworks (e.g., Cypress, Postman, K6, Playwright, etc.) through standardized definitions.
  • Version-Aware Updates: Tracks changes in Git and updates test registrations automatically to match repository versions.
  • Centralized Visibility: Displays all discovered tests in the Testkube dashboard for unified management and execution.
